x58 + sata 3 card vs 990fx/x79

Fri Sep 30, 2011 9:45 am

so I have an asus rampage formula with the horrible on board sata 3 chip that i want to replace with a better performing sata 3 chipset. i am looking to do a raid 0 array with 2 corsair force gts 240 gb and so I am looking for a good card that is 100 or less that will give me great performance. I can't seem to find a good card without getting overwhelmed by reading each companies forums to see if they like said product. I am also tempted by the pending bulldozer/sandy bridge e releases and contemplating changing set ups if going that route is going to be better down the road instead of a quick fix. i have heavily invested in my x58 set up so i would prefer to stay with it but am willing to change platforms to the better performing sata 3 controller. especially since nowadays the biggest improvement to computer speed is going ssd vs the next speed bump in processor speed. any tips would be greatly apprecaited.

What are you looking to use a SSD raid 0 for? Is there a program you need it for, or is it just for raw performance?

I am a bit of a speed freak and have always ran a raid 0 array with whatever drives I have in my current build. I am a huge fan of raw performance and enjoy loading up things before everyone else.

use a ramdisk then. way faster than SSD in Raid 0
To Start Press Any Key'. Where's the ANY key?
If something's hard to do, then it's not worth doing
You know, boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like a woman. You just have to read the manual and press the right buttons.
