Hello,

This is my first build and I have a pretty good idea of what I want to use. Any suggestions on what I should change? I also am looking for a full size tower. I thought about reuseing my Thermaltake armor2 my friend used to build my first computer. I have swapped parts out on my old system and find I prefer something I can fit my over sized mits in. I also plan to reuse my Msi 660ti from my e8400 system. With the Thermaltake Frio will I have to worry about the weight on the Asus MB? From what I have read in reviews the cooler is on the large and heavy side? Thank you for your time !

Are you building this for anything specific? Or just a general computer for gaming?

It looks good. Only thing I'd change is the power supply. You really don't need anything that big. Your system could get away with a 500watt pretty easily. Save a few dollars there.

Any reason you want 16GB of ram? Or is it just because you can? (ram being so cheap right now)

As for your Thermaltake Frio, doesn't really matter which motherboard you use in terms of being able to handle the weight, I don't know of any that offer "additional CPU heatsink support" for weight. Motherboards can handle a lot of weight, just make sure you don't bump the case hard.

Other than that, looks good.

I am going for a gaming rig set up an maybe hooking it up to my livingroom t.v. because I use netflix/ hulu instead of cable tv. I rather pay for a better connection than watch what's on t.v. nowadays. I was thinking of going sli and yes the ram was cheap as can be. Thank you on the feed back on the Frio, after reading the reviews on it I was worried it, I think I read somewhere the Asus mb has just 6 screws to keep it in place and people were discribing is as flimsy.

That motherboard supports 8x8 dual card sli or crossfire so you look good to go. I did not notice if you had a SSD included? If not i suggest one even a small cache drive for intel's smart response or a 128gb OS SSD.

My corsair force SSD is a original relic and only 60gb in size, but considering i bought it almost 2 years ago along with the rest of my gaming rig i cannot complain even though i am down to 12gb of space and have not installed anything on it in a year besides updates and such. I wish i had at least 128gb !!

I recommend that you buy 2x8 GiB rather than 4x4 GiB of memory. This will allow better expandability in the future. Since two DIMMs put less load on the memory bus, they could also allow better stability or higher overclocking than a four-DIMM arrangement would.

For $90, the 3 TB Seagate ST3000DM001 Barracuda 7200.14 offers three times as much storage as the $89 1TB Seagate ST1000DM005 drive now sold as the former Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3. Besides offering a much better value, the 3 TB Seagate drive is also faster, noisier and slightly hotter than the old 1 TB Samsung HD103SJ was.

Your build lacks an optical drive.

I went with you advice and am going to buy the G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Desktop Memory Model F3-1866C9D-16GXM. I did not know that about the load on the 4 DIMMs.

Sadly the Seagate ST3000DM001 Barracuda 7200.14 is sold out. I can't believe I missed that deal ! I am glad you pointed it out because I have filled a 1TB drive and the other is about at 50% filled so I need to think about getting something bigger or more drives

I posted late in the night and forgot to ad that I also have a a couple items on hand, Win 8 64-bit pro and LG Uh12Ns29 BD-ROM/DVD-RW. The OS I bought when I was going to upgrade from Vista but you know how things go, you start thinking about software upgrades and quickly move onto hardware upgrades.

A sound card is the one major (at least to me) things that is missing. I can recommend the Asus Xonar DX whole-heartily.
For a lower end, if you are not to worried about listening to music as it has some pre-set leveling the DGX is also a good contender.
