Personally I'd stay the hell away from a TN screen these days but many people are fine with them and there's no denying that they're perfectly good for text-based work and casual gaming.
TN screens only really suck when the vertical viewing angles interfere with the gamma when you're trying to retouch very pale or very dark scenes in Photoshop, or when the game/movie is particularly dark it can all look a bit washed-out/inverted, but that doesn't sound like it'll be of relevance to you from the casual usage description you've mentioned.
