Cooler Master Gaming Keyboard and Mouse Combo $30.00-$40.00

Mechanical keyboards and purpose-designed mice are a staple of any quality gaming machine, but the price of such specialized components can put them out of reach for many customers. Cooler Master’s original Devastator mouse and keyboard were popular because they split the difference, offering solid components at a lower price point. The keyboard’s membrane switches were a compromise, but $30 for both a mouse and keyboard designed for gaming was a good deal. Now the company is refreshing the product line, bringing new keyboard switches and other improvements to the new Devastator II combo.

Just arrived today. First impression... No paint on keys so backlighting had better be good. Backlight has one level turned on by pressing Scroll Lock key. Rather dim light backlights entire keyboard. Puts more light through gaps between keys than it does through the key caps. Key caps are barely lit up, still hard to see lettering especially with gaps between keys being brighter. I'm not too impressed. I'm tempted to take off the back of this and put in a better light.

Mouse, rather long on the hand and I have big hands. Its much better lit up than the keyboard and its suitable, I think, for evaluating chromatograms.

I will write more later after I have used this combo for a couple weeks.

What do you think/feel when pushing on the keys? Does it still have the same feeling of a silicon membrane under the keys? Curious since the keyboard has a combination of a membrane, and a mechanical switch.
Thanks for the early feedback Mr. Bill.

Sitting and swapping between a $95 Rosewill backlit keyboard and this $35 CM board plus mouse combo well...
The mechanical keyboard gives a tactile feedback for each keystroke that lets you feel like you can type faster. The CM keyboard has no tactile click. It almost feels like you are typing on a bouncy medium. You have to rely on screen visual to see that a keystoke resulted in a character. Both keyboards have fairly deep keystrokes and I think probably about the same stroke distance to register a character but the CM feels deeper because there is this bounce instead of the click.

So in a pinch it's nothing phenomenal but workable if money is tight, otherwise your better off with another keyboard. I'll wait on asking more questions until you've had a chance to type up more later on.
