Corsair RM550 - $39.99 (MIR) @ Newegg Shell Shocker

The RM series was replaced by the RMi series, or was moved to the HXi series...  Oh I forget.  I actually had one of the Corsair techs explain to me how they moved all of the series up a notch in name but were really internals from another series.

Anyhow, for a Gold cert 550w Corsair RM series, I think $40 bucks is a damn fair price.  It's a MIR which I've had good luck with when it comes to Corsair FWIW.  Anyhow, if you don't need a lot of wattage, this would sure beat out paying close to the same for a CX(M)430 or equivalent.

Think it's a old design that's now gone EOL.
When I see a $40 PSU I tend to think-there must be around $10 to $15 of components inside there.
What quality components can you get for that price? Answer none.
PSU IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANY BUILD.

Even the bargain priced CX430 has worked out well the times I have used it.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

JonnyGuru is a good place to look instead of making assumptions.  It is a CWT design though...
You'd be surprised how cheap even high quality PSUs with 100% Japanese capacitors cost to manufacture.  I've seen the Seasonic G 550 for $45 after MIR or the EVGA G2 550 for $50 after MIR.  The RM550 may be dated and not the best PSU by todays standards, but you can definitely do worse.

Have read nearly every review on JonnyGuru PSU's under 650 watts, for the last 5 years.
Constantly reading comments like-Not up to Seasonics standard-Can't all be as good as Seasonic.
It's only this last year since the Superflower/EVGA G2 that Seasonic wasn't what others were allways measured up to.
As for CWT-they make some good PSU's also some poor ones.
The No of comments I've read from poor soldering to poor component choices and generally bad build quality are
too many to list.
Agree-you can do a LOT worse...............................................

If you want Seasonic quality, buy Seasonic! There's a *lot* of wiggle room between that and generic junk though, and some real bargains to be had from time to time on decently performing units.
