Free games from Ubisoft

Fri Dec 16, 2016 5:09 pm

So apparently Ubisoft has been giving away a bunch of stuff over the course of this year. I've been oblivious, but that's nothing new. Just in case we've had our heads stuck in the same sandbox, you can grab all seven titles for free right here. Some of the titles are older, but, again, it's free stuff. Get your free stuff.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Splinter Cell
Rayman Origins
The Crew
Beyond Good and Evil
Far Cry Blood Dragon
Assassin's Creed III

You'll need a Ubi account to get in on the goods and you'll have to have Uplay installed in order to actually download the games. I'm sure will make some folks turn their noses up at this offer, but in case you hadn't heard, I'll say this: it's free stuff. Who doesn't like free stuff? I like free stuff. You can mull it over for a couple of days. The offer expires on the 18th. When you've finally sucked it up, go get your free stuff from Ubisoft.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Thanks. Post download, do these games require Uplay (or whatever it's called) or are they standalone?

I had to login through Uplay to claim it. It kept failing when I tried to login through their website.

Thanks for the heads up. I've been wanting to play Blood Dragon.

They're through Uplay.

A handful of my UPlay games actually link to Steam when installing or launching them from within the UPlay application.  At least I don't end up with multiple installs of the same title.  It had been a few years since I last used my UPlay account.  That's when I received some free Ubisoft games with AMD graphics cards.

Note that if you don't want to deal with UPlay, some of those are available for purchase, without DRM, at GOG.com...but for $10-20/each, not free.

With Uplay strings attached I guess I'm one of the
folks turn their noses up at this offer

GoG is better, Steam I can tolerate if I must, but that's about it. :)

Notes on the games: BG&E and SoT are nice. Splinter Cell 1 has since a few months ago a fan-made wrapper to enable the fancier GeForce 3-4 shadows on modern cards.

Thanks for the heads up. Might never play them, but I have them in case. Never know.

Do you by any chance have the two factor authentication enabled. I have, and ever since then, I cant log in on the webpage. Uplay works fine though. So my thought was that they somehow are being rubbish and forgot to implement that on their web login.

No, I don't. I did have to reset my password *again* to log in through Uplay just now. I know I had the right one because I use a password manager to save them.

On that topic, their password requirements are ridiculous: 16 character maximum and just two or three symbol types allowed. There's no good reason I shouldn't be able to use 32 characters and whatever symbol the password manager wants to generate.

Just got done fighting with the Ubisoft website, in case anyone else is having trouble logging in (I got "Login error"), you have to allow third-party cookies to login to their website for some reason.
