~230 bucks for a 1TB 970 EVO is pretty amazing, even if you hate Samsung.

It's generally just not worth the effort since so many things could happen in the course of a year to affect the release date or street pricing of X component. I suppose you could use one of those price tracking sites and then pounce if you see an upward trend happening. That's probably what I'd do rather than trying to research the market its self, and/or it was super inconvenient to have parts sitting around unused for some reason.
