Mon Mar 12, 2007 8:53 am

Accidently ran into this on Microcenters Website:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0252158

$449 - $50 rebate + $20 shipping = $420

Acer 14" Celeron laptop, 512ddr2 (2x256, yay), vista home, 4200rpm hdd
Thought someone might be looking for a laptop in this price range.

That would be dog slow, omg.

That wouldn't be a bad little rig to throw Linux on. I'm kinda thinking about it. The laptop I'm using Linux on right now is a 700mhz PIII, so this would be a huge step up.

This one is a better deal, if you don't mind $350 in mail-in-rebates:

$475 after rebates.

Yeah, I hate rebates. I generally won't buy anything with a mail in rebate.

For me, coming up with $420 is a stretch right now. Coming up with over $800 and then waiting for a rebate that may or may not be honored is not remotely possible.

Bah... the wife vetoed my idea of getting a newer laptop.

She said I spend so much time on the one I have that it must still be OK.

She controls the boobie supply, so I'm going to have to sit tight with my PIII for a while.

You're on it for so long because you're waiting for it to do its thing?
