That's the W1, not the W3 that some of us on here use. I don't know what the difference is. Sounds like a good deal, though, especially if it can be used as a monitor like the W3 can.

Life at 37" is indeed nice.

I think the difference is that it's white and has detachable speakers. It's also "recertified".

pretty darn good deal IMHO

Screen is the same, I have a W1 and my brother has a W3. (theres no 37" W2, the 42 is W2 but no W1, 47 only W1. Also theres the newer models with tuners and different screens...I troll AVS forums too)

Internals are about the same too, no real difference in processing, HD inputs or anything besides speakers and bezel.

It was the first really nice hybrid LCD monitor you could get (first 1080p too) used it on my computer for quite awhile, now that the 47 took over its the bedroom TV 8)

Broadcasts have fallen way behind TV quality in the last few years, have to use a computer or discovery channel during most of the day to really show people a nice screen now. (me, 10 foot pole, 15 foot gap, "nextgen" disc formats)

I like my W1. That's a kicking steal at $589... I'd pick one up for two screens of 37" glory

If I was living in the states :-?

Dammit this is sooooo tempting. Been wanting a 37" for my bedroom for a while now. And this is now at $585. The no ATSC tuner kinda sux tho but I have dishnetwork anyway and their HD boxes have OTA ATSC tuners in them.

man, the wife will hate me if I do this... grrrrrrrrrrr

FWIW, I've read about banding and backlight bleeding problems with the 40"+ Westinghouse TVs...don't know if it applies to this model, but I'd still want to see one before I bought.

I have that set, it was their first 1080p screen. it's got a pair of DVI inputs and runs computer resolution perfectly.

The colors are of course not the best in the world, but at 585, it's a pretty sweet price, and it displays HDTV pretty damn well to boot.

I was considering this display for awhile and got to see one. I was excited that it was full 1920x1080 but after seeing it I was NOT impressed. The black levels were Bad(even for LCD). The video processing wasn't good either as I Only one of the DVI ports out of two does 1080p.

PLus I need 3 HDMI ports.

Buy a switch, or better yet look into some nice audio receivers that will handle this for you. My Onkyo receiver does a pretty good job of it.

I posted this before.
Someone said it was deleted from forum.
To TechReport's credit it was NOT deleted from the old top page Hot/Best Buy advice/advertisement.

The "deal" is STILL ACTIVE.

My post asked if TechReport received any benefit by posting/advertising this.
Somone posted, that TechReport does receive some incentive to post/advertise these so called Hot/Best buy "advice".
So I guess the question is what incentive TechReport receives?
Can it be quantitized as a dollar amount for each sale of the product?
I came to read TechReport for "unbiased" reviews.
I know they have posted information critical of review sites that have an "economic" tie-in with the products they review/promote.

Flame away, if you want.
Even delete my post.
But the honest questions will remain.

BTW, keep up the excellent work here in pulling together multiple reviews and review sites.

Everything that is linked from the forums (with maybe a few exceptions that I'm not aware of) is done completely pro-bono and does not offer any kickbacks to anyone.
In fact, here's one of the rules for the Hot Deals forum:
2.0. No Vendor/Kickback codes
Tech Report is not to be used as a storefront. Anyone caught using deal codes that offer any kind of kickbacks for anyone will result in their post being deleted and the poster given a strike, with the possibility of being banned. There are hundreds of ways to make money on the internet…..this is not one of them.

2.1.On occasion online vendors that are TR sponsors make special deals available to our readers to gauge interest in new pricing or marketing. These specials require the use of a code or specific link for tracking purposes. Often these codes involve a very small commission reimbursed to TR for going to the trouble of posting them. Therefore, an exception to rule 2a is allowed for TR staff to post deals of this nature.

Needless to say, I'm not an admin, so my posting this was just for the help of the fellow gerbils.

PS, welcome to TR. I'm glad that you registered to ask your questions. I'm happy that you find this site a useful resource, as many of us do. I hope you stick around 8)

We don't get anything from posting deals, not monetary anyway, just the satisfaction of knowing that we may help someone out there save money to buy more toys.
Fold! And I don't mean your clothes!

Wow... not gonna try to interpret all of that, but I'll briefly respond to one point.

The Tech Report gets no/zero/zilch benefit from this link to the Westinghouse screen. Whether you buy it or not impacts us none whatsoever. If you purchased the one we linked on our front page Deal of the Week post we likewise would not see one cent from the deal.

Unrelated to this post, we do partner with PriceGrabber to provide a price search feature for just about any product you may want to purchase via the internet, and that relationship does benefit us monetarily... in a miniscule way, I might add. You'll find PriceGrabber's links on the right side of our front and content pages and usually at the end of our product reviews. But our reward is based on people doing the searches and researching the products, not on whether they buy it or not. Furthermore, the price comparison feature provided by PriceGrabber is truly useful to anyone wanting to compare prices. If we didn't link to this service, most shoppers would find a similar service elsewhere. AND, we don't steer you toward specific products, brands or stores, we simply give you the tool to do the comparisons yourself.
Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations-these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendours. -C.S. Lewis

That countdown timer has been around 44-45 hours every single time I've looked at that site for almost a month since this initially came out. I'm still wondering if I want to bite on this, too.
