ASRock removes most references to SkyOC??

Mon Jan 11, 2016 11:22 am

I've been working on a secondary PC build with an i5-6500 (got a killer deal), just finalizing the board, but I'm finding some curious missing links on ASRock's page as I try to determine which board to purchase while ensuring it will be an overclockable setup.

This link, often linked to by tech news sites including Techreport, is now broken: http://www.asrock.com/news/events/SkyOC/

This one still works:
http://www.asrock.com/news/index.asp?id=3132
... but there are no downloads there.

I cannot seem to find any of the SkyOC BIOS revisions on each board's download page.

Same goes for the Extreme7+
http://asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extre ... ad&os=BIOS

Extrem6+, last bios Dec 8, prior to their Dec 15 announcement:
http://asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170%20Extre ... ad&os=BIOS

Z170M Extreme4, all downloads page just for fun:
http://asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z170M%20Extr ... oad&os=All

etc.

Is something up?

edit: I've submitted a tech support request and another one via the webmaster support link. We'll see what they say.

Maybe they received an official frowning from Intel?

That hasn't stopped them in the past!

I posted on Overclockers.com on your behalf to see if anyone has a locked CPU Bios that will allow you to OC.

http://www.overclockers.com/forums/show ... SROCK+bios

I am sure you or I will find it somewhere and get it saved. I have one other Idea looking now.
Edit: I just posted on the overclock.net forums also which I think will be more fruitful than overclckers.com.....anyone looking for custom VGA card Bio'ses or having one made overclock.net is the place to go, as for motherboard's I am not sure But am hopeful.

Oh wait - if you're actually looking for the SkyOC revision BIOSes, look in the Beta Zone of the respective download pages

Ah, I see. Thanks!

I'll chalk up the dead link to the /events/SKYOC to just bad webmastering.

For Asrock did anyone pay attention to the disclaimer at the bottom of the news post? So overclock a Core i3-6100 you lose AVX, and temperature monitoring while overclocking?
Disclaimer:

1. Intel® iGPU, CPU Turbo Ratio, AVX and C-State function will be disabled when running SKY OC, a discrete VGA card is required.

2. For Z170M PRO4S / Z170M-ITX/ac / Z170M Pro4 / Z170M Extreme4, the CPU temperature cannot be read when running SKY OC.

3. The overclocking results may vary between different CPUs and hardware configurations.

4. Due to future hardware/firmware updates or other reasons, the availability of SKY OC is subject to change without notice in advance.
It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

Welp, maybe there was more to this... Bummer. Wonder what will happen to the other manufacturers.

It was only matter of sooner rather later Intel was going stop base overclocking, I'm surprised it lasted this long before mobo manufacturers were reminded by Intel to knock it off.
