Hope 2600k motherboard holds up :)

Mon May 09, 2016 2:01 pm

I have a Gigabyte P67-UD4-b3 MB that just started getting a very high pitched coil whine only when the CPU is totally unloaded...just moving mouse and typing interferes with it.
Pray for it.....But I'm thinking it will be ok.....just annoying when just surfing and reading...now that I think about it lately War Thunder has been running in the backround when I have been surfing...Just started War thunder and the whine is gone. Still worried...not time for new PC.

Unlike older Nehalem systems, I think if it *does* die, it'd be worth the money just to get a Z77 board and continue to enjoy your system.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Sounds like one of inductors or capacitors on the motherboard is starting to fail. If you are adventurous enough and have a steady hand with a solder iron. You can attempt to recap the motherboard if it becomes a problem.

I would fix it if it does take a dump but I think I would rather just get a more feature rich z77 motherboard before I try fixing what I have. It is an has been a great motherboard. I am just going to keep my fingers crossed that it keeps on trucking.

I have a Core 2 motherboard that's been squealing @ idle since the day I bought it. Nine years later it still works just fine!
Like a good neighbor jackbomb is there.

I know the feeling of not wanting to give up a P67 board. My old Sabertooth P67 is the rev 1 variety with the SATA2 bug. I just avoided plugging anything into the SATA2 ports and ignored the bug. Simply wasn't a show stopper at all and the board has lasted me 6 years faithfully since.
