NVMe support for Sabertooth fx 990 R2.0 BIOS 2901

Fri Oct 21, 2016 8:00 pm

 Dear Sirs

I have Asus Sabertooth fx 990 R2.0 gen2. I updated new bios (2901) which offers NVMe support.
Can I use the Samsung 950 Pro 512GB as a system disk (via adapter m2-pcix)?

That should be fine. If the BIOS will boot NVMe drives, and if you have that BIOS installed, then you should be all set to get a tasty new SSD. I'd probably wait for the 960 Pro to become widely available at this point, but the 950 is a fast drive.

oh, and I guess it goes without saying, but if you already have to get an adapter card to use the drive you might as well spend a couple bucks on heatsinks and adhesive to keep throttling to a minimum.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Just for your info, PCI-X is not PCI-E.  PCI-X is a 64-bit parallel PCI slot, usually in high-end workstations and servers about 10+ years ago.  Very different to PCI-Express.

Did this warrant bumping the thread? It was clear he meant a PCIe adapter, not a slot that nobody these days has usually ever heard of or seen.

Well excuse me for trying to educate people.

Go ahead, wallow in your cluelessness.
