Old thread, but...

I'm pretty sure settings are stored on the BIOS flash, and it's not battery-backed.

An Asus BIOS I checked had the settings stored in a section called NVRAM.
I can't be sure it's only and always like that, but it makes sense nowadays (or 10 years ago).
