Good day all.

I am having a serious boot problem on a machine I just setup for my son.

Its an AMD A4 7300 on a gigabyte ga-f2a68hm-h board.

I used a live Ian to install Linux Mint. The install went smoothly but after the first reset and load up into Mint, it asked if I wanted to turn on something AMD64 related (I cannot remember what for the life of me) and asked for a reboot.

Now it won't let me do anything....including accessing the BIOS. I just get a message "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Medai in selected Boot device and press a key". When I press a key nothing happens.

Any ideas as to what I can do to at least get access to the BIOS?

This is crazy.....I disconnected the hard drive and took out all USB peripherals (KB & mouse) and absolutely no BIOS options.

Reset the CMOS, its to left of the front panel connector.

CLR_CMOS (Clear CMOS Jumper)
Use this jumper to clear the BIOS configuration and reset the CMOS values to factory defaults. To clear the CMOS values, use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two pins for a few seconds.
• Always turn off your computer before clearing the CMOS values.
• After system restart, go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized Defaults) or manually configure the BIOS settings (refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," for BIOS configurations).

There isn't still a thumdrive plugged into the rear panel is there?

I've also seen this with cell phones plugged into USB just for charging. BIOS/UEFI sees the phone as a boot device for some odd reason, especially if the phone is in "file" mode.

Yup. Phones, music players, cameras, basically anything that looks vaguely like a storage device can confuse some BIOSes and cause boot device detection issues.

So.....after trying everything suggested here and online......don't laugh.....I ended up buying a DVD drive, burnt the linux image to disk....and now the machine works as if nothing ever happened.

Sounds like it may have still been configured to boot directly from removable media instead of a hard disk and wasn't happy when it couldn't find any?
