Even bought a static wrist strap.

Hooked up the two cpu power connections and the MB power connection,
EDIT... ram and the two 6pins for the videocard.

Pressed the power switch on the Power supply and
the only thing that happened was the pink Designare led turned on and buzzed.
(guessing standby power)

Press the MB power button and the pink led goes out and nothing.
And seems to need a rest before you can turn the power supply
switch back on and get the pink led again.

The delay makes me think of a short and the power supply is
shuting down to protect everything.

Have not removed and reseated the cpu yet.(last resort)
Guessing the status led for the cpu should light up if NO cpu...?
If yes, will have to pull the cpu next. (trying to ignore sick feeling)

This is resting on the MB box, not in a case.

There are 4 status leds not lite, the error code read out not lite.
I mean even if you had no cpu,ram,graphic I would expect the
status leds to light up and let you know the problem area.

No other lights,no fans... nothing

I tried another power supply with hard wired cables and got the same results.
I removed items bit by bit till down to just a cpu. No change.

Thoughts welcome, really hope I've missed something obvious.
If not I'll send the motherboard back first since it won't power up.

I watched the recent computer build on PC World and these led crazy
motherboards should light up the room.

Honestly, it sounds like the back plate might be grounding out the board. It's not even getting to post based on what you said.

So I've looked at the manual, and as far as I can tell, it should give an error. It has a half a dozen errors for the cpu. I would reseat the processor (maybe last, because frankly the tr socket scares me) and use one stick of memory. I'd also double check and make sure the fan is in the correct spot (if water I'd just stick a fan on it). Double check all the connectors. Based on your notes, you did all this. Oh did you reset the cmos? Anyways, overall you look to have done a thorough job.

This motherboard has a standard 24-pin ATX, an 8-pin ATX12V and a 4-pin ATX12V. There is no "6-pin for the RAM". If you are plugging one of the PSU's PCIe 6-pin cables into the motherboard 4-pin ATX12V connector, you are grounding out your 12V rail... and that's your problem.

Oh yeah, the cpu socket scares the crap out of me also.
That why it has yet to be touched. But looks like that is next!

Oh, this motherboard does not come with the "second" socket protector.
Sure wish it did!

Just hope it is not the cpu only the motherboard.

The "6 pin" did not apply to the ram, just the video card.

YAY, the second motherboard worked!

Tho it tried to get me...
Was plugging in the CPU fan and noticed a nice little screw wedged
in the pins.
Thank goodness it was there and not tucked away somewhere out of sight.

It was one of the backplate screws. NOT one of the screws were tight.
Surprised more of them did not fall out.
Got it tucked away in the case. almost ready to finish up and install W10/64.
Please,Please let it boot next time!

Once I had a new motherboard that wouldn't POST. Turned out the pins on one of the unused fan headers were bent and shorted to each other, grounding out the +12V rail.

Now I always examine all the fan headers before trying to power a new board up.

Did have to remove one standoff for the new MB in the new tower case.
But the original problem MB was tested out of the case sitting on the box.
I always test first in the simplest state possible.

I do like that back plate. It must protect > 80% of the MB from any "short"
(Barring the loose screws out of the back plate it self!)

Oh, also went with a thermal heat pad for "now". approx $13 for 145mm square x .5mm
Taking the cpu out of the old bad MB and cleaning everything up...
What a mess!
Little too generous with the paste but "a little dab in the middle" won't do it"

So there was no fix here? You had to get a new board. Am I understanding that correctly.

I have the exact same problem. Pink light and all.

Unfortunately, no fix.
The replacement motherboard booted up and all was good.

I do suspect a "short" as one touch of the power button and
EVERYTHING just instantly shut down.
I did not see any visible short but I did not take the backplate off
and check back there.
