At the beginning of CES, AMD stated that Ryzen+ will come out in early April and that it contain only minor refinements of Ryzen and its manufacturing process. They also said that an update to the chipset was coming simultaneously. Does anyone know of any info that would indicate this chipset update will be anything more than what is happening to the CPU, just minor refinements to justify an "upgraded" branding?

Ideally, we'd see more native USB 3 Gen 2 ports as well as an upgrade to the downstream PCIe links from v2 to v3.

Hopefully there won't be any teething issues between Ryzen+ and B350 since I'm planning on upgrading this year. (Bad lottery for my 1700X, can barely hit 3.7GHz)

Is that with XFR or manual OC? Sometimes people assume bad lottery when it can be settings, BIOS or in some cases a not so stable PSU.

I'm debating the 400 series stuff too. I'm curious if it is enough to warrant NOT buying some of these "premium" B350 motherboards right now. I mean you can pickup what in the Intel world would be considered a near $200 board for $130-140 and some on sale at $100. Hard to ignore really, since if you wait you could always end up just paying the "Brand New" tax for something not much better. It's exactly how I felt with my 7850... The R9 2xx came out and a few of them were overpriced rebrands on my same damn card. Got lucky on that one.

What really could there be on the B450 vs B350? More PCIe lanes is about all I can imagine but I don't really care about that in a single card system that isn't attaching a bunch of I/O devices. If I were going that route, Threadripper would be in my Crosshairs.

Manual settings. I could go crazy on voltage and get pretty much any speed I want, but I'm unwilling to go over 1.45 on a daily-driver PC.

It's always possible that the BIOS settings are lying to me but if they are there's not much I can do about it. If there was a way to set things manually and NOT OC all eight cores I'd try that but I can't find a way to do that in the BIOS.

You're completely correct, I don't want or need speeds over 4.0GHz, based on Ryzen reviews. The problem is that I can't get the CPU even to those settings at any sane voltage.

What board and PSU are you sitting on?

A lot of B350 boards have mediocre phases. I just bought a Strix B350-F as it has better chokes than most B350s and it's a 4+4 configuration. Granted I'm not looking to OC right off the bat, but it should be easy later down the road with this board.

They did show a slide saying the 400 series chipsets would be lower power, so I'm assuming, if nothing else, there's a respin of some sort happening there. Additional PCIe lanes would be a nice add, though. Probably shouldn't expect PCIe 4.0 until the next generation though.

ASRock AB350 Pro4. It was within my budget, and I've had a lot of success with ASRock in general. Of course those were all X99 chipset boards.
