So, my Shuttle 597V14 had the caps next to the CPU go bad. This caused the resistor between the CPU VRM and IDE#1 socket to burn beyond recognition. If anybody has this board and can examine that resistor and read its value or can clip in a picture of it; I may be able to get this board fixed by my brother in law. He says he needs to know the 3 digit number that will be visible, then it will be a cinch to fix. wiring diagrams even more welcome but not holding breath.

Edit: Printed on the board below the VRM's and to the left of the resistor is "VQ11" and "VQ10". To the right of the resistor "BC41" is printed; which implies this is actually some sort of tiny capacitor. its burnt bad enough to have left smoke stains on the outside of the IDE1 socket.

Worth a shot in the dark, but not very likely you're going to find that specific VIA Socket 7 out in the wild. There's a handful of images available thorough various search engines, but nothing with a hi-res macro shot in that specific area. Any chance of using a different board?

If stuff elsewhere on the board fried when the caps blew, there's a fairly high probability that there are additional components which failed without obvious external signs of damage. It would not surprise me at all if one or more of the MOSFETs in the VRM are blown.
