Old mobo hope

Mon Apr 20, 2020 12:05 am

Any way I can use a G41T-DM still? Or is it hopeless / should I buy a new mobo?

You can, if you have a Core 2 Quad lying around or you can get one for really cheap, like this:

Do you have the ram and everything else needed to build a system? You would likely be able to just do mostly web browsing or Microsoft Office work on a PC like that. Gaming will be limited unless you like running an older OS (like Windows XP) and running games released till 2005 or so. If you do decide to build a PC with this mobo, make sure to give it the maximum 8GB of RAM. It will make things a bit smoother but you will need to stick with Windows 7 64-bit.

A lowly 9th gen Core i3 should be about 1.5 times faster than the Q9650.

LGA775 and DDR2 are way too old to keep using. At this point, you should be looking for a socket-AM4 motherboard, DDR4 memory and a Ryzen CPU as the basis of a new PC.

You didn't say what your situation is. Is the system currently functional, but you want to improve performance? Or do you just have the board, and are trying to make use of it? What is this system used for?

But in general, unless you have a need for a low-performance system (e.g. e-mail and web browsing only) and can scavenge whatever parts you need for free (or very close to it), this board is not worth salvaging. It's roughly a decade old, and no current (or even vaguely recent) CPU or RAM upgrades are compatible with it.

True, that hardware is 10+ years outdated but not completely useless. I had an old G41 motherboard I repurposed for my grade school son to use for teaching applications, light gaming and its using Win10. With other left over Core-2 CPUs and DDR2 RAM I repurposed them in Q45 mobos for backup file servers using Linux/unRAID OS.

Agree it's still potentially useful for non-demanding use cases, but I would not spend any more money on it. My home file server is based on some pretty old hardware at this point, but only because I already had the parts on hand (other than the disk drives).

Gave my DDR2-800 RAM to Glorious years ago.

Some G41s are DDR3.

AFAICT the G41T-DM isn't, though.

Those Q96xx's are actually still useful for lightweight machines, but only if you have a fairly good graphics card to install and don't otherwise have to put much money into it.

There's plenty of people talking about whether or not Rakuten is legit on reddit.

You'll want the best web hosting reddit as well.
Rotating proxies listed here: the best proxies
Crypto wallets are important, and we discuss that on best hardware wallets on Reddit.
1password vs Lastpass information at best password managers on Reddit.

I'd consider getting a litter robot for my cat, and I've been looking at litter robot reddit for more info.

I was asking what the best vpn reddit has to offer, thoughts?

I've been playing around with Splice, an audio sampling program. I was thinking it would be nice to try a subscription, so is splice worth it reddit?

It's probably better to use one the best VPNs reddit members picked.

Yeah, I'm going to stick with this as long as I can..

I still believe that the best hope is that a month from now we may be able to purchase:
B550 motherboard
Renoir Ryzen 4000G-series APU
DDR4 memory
