Gen 1 PCIe Card fit in Gen 2 PCIe?

Wed May 13, 2020 5:43 am

I want to buy an Intel WLAN Card which uses 1x PCIe 1.0 x1 and I was wondering if it fits in my Gigabyte B450M which has 2x PCIe 2.0 x1.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it'll fit and work just fine. The PCIe 2.0 slot will only operate at 1.0 mode though to handle the card.

Should work, they are supposed to be backward compatible.

If it's an older card, just make sure it has current drivers for whatever OS you're running.

With non-display cards it works 99.99% of the time. With GPUs you sometimes end up hitting odd compatibility issues with newer cards in older slots.
