Description of PCIe host adapter to SFF-8643 states the above. Could anyone provide what exactly needs be done?

It requires a platform (PCIe controller) and UEFI/BIOS that properly implements PCIe bifurcation (The ability to split-up and re-allocate PCIe lanes electrically). This is mostly limited to workstation and server-tier boards. There are few power-user, enthusiast-tier boards that do it as well.

You need to check your specific board/CPU/BIOS combination to see if lane bifurcation is supported. It's pretty hit or miss - my X570 board can do it, but my last Z170 board could not.

Motherboard should be compatible and BIOS should also have an option to enable it. You would need to dig the bifurcation options for your motherboard in BIOS settings
