Asus Prime B560M-A motherboard

Thu Dec 30, 2021 4:05 pm

Hi. I've just built a new PC with this motherboard and, despite using 2 USB sticks that work with my old PC, I just can't boot into Tails.
It turns out that the Compatibility Support Module on this mobo is disabled and I suspect that's the reason. Why on Earth they'd purposely disable CSM, I've no idea...

Would anyone know if CSM CAN be enabled on this board? Better still, does anyone have one, is able to boot into Tails and willing to tell me their secret? Thank you.

Can't Tails UEFI-boot?

If not, and if what the web suggests is true, you're not going to like it.
It seems CSM may be unsupported when using integrated graphics:

Hello again, meerkt. Yes, tails is supposed to UEFI boot but I still think it needs to have CSM available. It's the only thing different between my old rig and this new one. Thanks for your time.

AFAIK, UEFI booting doesn't require CSM, only legacy "BIOS booting" does.

I returned the ASUS mobo and got an ASRock. Tails now works perfectly. The ASRock came in much better packaging than the ASUS and my PC is quieter than with the ASUS. ASRock for me from now on.

Congrats. Which model?

How is it quieter, different (default?) fan behavior?

But Surprising. Does that mean you have CSM/legacy boot, with integrated graphics, on a B560 chipset + i5-10gen-something (UHD 630)?

Thanks. B460M Steel Legend. I think it was the fan I was (barely) hearing with the ASUS. Definitely don't hear it with the Rock. The Rock's BIOS is not something I've delved into yet. I know there's a CSM category but whether it's enabled, disabled or greyed out, I don't know (nor care, really!). My CPU is still the Core i5 10400 10th gen.
