Why is memory so cheap right now?

Mon Apr 25, 2011 6:07 pm

I see alot of sales and rebates and promo codes
so why has memory been so cheap all month?
I thought all these forecasters were predicting price rises due to the lower production in japan
obviously, memory modules do not use 100% japanese capacitors, but why the low prices right now?
can we expect to see the prices stay low throughout summer?

The reason prices are down so much is memory makers have flooded the market with modules. Oversupply leads to price reductions, and it did not help that they forcast a big surge on back to school computer purchases last fall that never materialized. Thus with all this extra memory floating around, prices have dropped.
