Thermal camera for the damage labs!

Tue May 05, 2015 7:34 pm

I though the damage labs might be interested in this Thermal imaging camera that plugs into most any Android phone for those GPU and Motherboard articles to let readers see the hotspots on Graphics cards and anything else the Labs might review.

It is quite inexpensive at $250 for a Flir camera and AnAndtech already reviewed it for you guys. It would be really nice to see the thermal characteristics of the back of loaded GPu's especially the good ones with lotsa power phases so the hotspots can be compared between say a stock GTX 980 and a extra wide 14 phased EVGA classified 980:) you get my meaning I am sure. Also you could check motherboard VRM temps and lotsa things like Laptops, Phones etc.

I would totally donate to damage labs to help purchase this. I think it'd be a great idea and a welcomed addition.

This model seems to be much more powerful than the FLIR One that came out a while ago. It has a very wide range of temperature and I like the spot temperature readings. At $250 it is tempting.

EDIT: Also, watch your title -- adding the word 'the' where it doesn't belong can lead to problems around here...

I'd be interested to see Damage labs using one of these to compare different new cards for reviews... You know, so long as eventually the hand me down ended up as a give-away
