Not sure if this is the appropriate board for this question, but I wanted to ask. Since October or so I've been on the lookout to buy either a Dell 2515H or 2717D if there is a sale. I was hoping that there would be a holiday discount at some point but no such luck. I'm just curious if there is ever a sale on higher end Dell monitors, or if I'm holding out for nothing.

Yes. But you will to wait and look for one when they happen. I got my 3014 30" almost $500 off three years ago. Sometimes you will find the older models a bit cheaper then the just released ones.

They don't do general discounts where all models are on sale at the same time. They will rotate models. So keep watching. And the discount amount has not been huge like a few years back.

Sometimes they don't even advertise it, and the price already drops. You kind of need to find a comfortable level and pull the trigger when it gets below that threshold. For the 2717D, the current price of 720-220=500 is not bad.

Also, you may want to check other resellers like B&H or Newegg. They do carry the monitor cheaper. I prefer to deal with Dell myself, but the warranties should be the same?

You will want to watch deal forums like slickdeals (the huge one) and fatwallet (smaller but still good). Set up some keyword alerts for specific models you want, and maybe a general alert to catch any possible general monitor-wide applicable discount codes. Someone will eventually post discount codes that you will be able to combo with a monitor sale for a moderate discount. I've done this for both my Dell 2407 and 3011 displays. You can also search the expired deals on those sites to get an idea of what's a good range and what is a bad deal to help decide when to commit. 

It's been awhile since I shopped for a Dell display but the sales aren't spammed like they used to be ten years ago. As Flying Fox says monitor sales seem to rotate by just a few specific models at a time now.

Years ago, I kept track of deals on Dell UltraSharp monitors because they offered much better value than other brands of IPS LCD monitors.  With the influx of low-priced IPS and VA LCD monitors into the marketplace, you no longer have to pay an arm and a leg to get a good quality image from the other guys.

Replaced all my screens with Ultrasharps in fall of 2015 when Newegg had some for about 40% off.
