I'm thinking about one of those as my primary and using my current 20 or 22 1080p as a secondary monitor. I have a similar setup at work and it is marvelous. I don't want bigger than 24 just due to desk space concerns but I'd like higher resolution than what I have now.

Windows Runtime apps scale great, but with win32 apps it's a crapshoot. Some popular stuff is just embarrassing. But a lot of things that had issues (if their developers even care) don't anymore.
Creators Update adds new scaling tech for win32 apps, but I think it's only really for whitelisted apps...when I've tried to set it myself on other stuff I've had poor results.

Well from what I heard, Win10 does work well with scaling but third party applications don't always work.
“System (enhanced)” DPI scaling
While we want to make it as easy as possible for you to update your applications to handle DPI scaling properly, we fully recognize that there are many applications that can never be updated, for various reasons. For this class of applications, we’re looking at ways that Windows can do a better job of automatically DPI scaling. In the Creators Update you’ll see the first version of this work.

So that's out of the question.
Do we know paulWTAMU has a Nvidia GPU?

Amen to that.Voldenuit wrote:My take is that AMD cards (right now) are too slow to take advantage of 144 Hz monitors
While I see where you're coming from, there are plenty of games out there (and people that play them) that aren't hard to peg a 1440p 144Hz monitor even with a ~$120 GPU. (think F2P games). It's also not absolutely necessary to play the most demanding games with all visual settings on Uber/Ultra/Max which is what most benchmarks use. Most gamers upgrade GPUs every 2-3 years, but keep monitors through multiple upgrades. If anything, I see a monitor as something you can "grow into". That's a harder pill to swallow lately given the recent explosion of improvements in the monitor market (VRR / HDR / high resolution) but it's still worth spending a little extra to get a monitor you'll be happy with for the foreseeable future.
Voldenuit wrote:I see your point, but how valuable is it to play a casual game at 144 fps (assuming the game engine can even handle it)?

Yep, older programs will usually not scale up their UI elements with the Win10 scaling hints.
27" 1440p works fine for me on my desktop, but I had to download custom large button control bar icons for MPC-HC on my 13.3" 3200x1600 laptop.
Office, Notepad++, all my Metro apps and the browsers I use (Vivaldi) work fine on both. It's mostly the older programs that assume a fixed dpi and have fixed size UI elements that run into trouble.
