DisplayPort 2.0

Wed Jun 26, 2019 2:13 pm

After the three long years that NVidia fought against fully supporting the previous DisplayPort standard (for variable refresh rate), I am slightly surprised to see VESA rolling out version 2.0 already.

It was inevitable with HDMI 2.1 just coming onto the scene. We'll have to wait until next major GPU refresh for Displayport 2.0 to come around (Ampere/Post-Navi).

Maybe VESA got jealous of how quickly PCIe 6 was announced after PCIe5?
No matter how bad the new homepage sucks or how bungled the new management is...

Not even remotely competing in the same market(s). PCIe is first and foremost an internal interface. Thunderbolt is just an external adaption of it. It is more like VESA is trying keep up with HDMI.

Thunderbolt: The basis for both USB 4 and Displayport 2.

And people said it would never catch on.

Meh,

"since March 2016" when DP 1.4a was released.

I know most cards support 1.4 but what amount of monitors fully support DP v1.4a, now, over 3 years since it's been released?

Despite the progress made with monitors that past 5 years, they are still lagging imo.

Variable refresh rate is also supported under DisplayPort 1.2a or "1.2+" or "1.2↑" as some monitors display it.
