Bluray Burning Software?

Thu Jul 18, 2019 10:54 am

Hey all,

I was just curious if any of you have a favorite piece of bluray burning software?

I have some friends whose kids actually produced an amateur movie and they want to burn some blurays to sell. I have been searching around for a burning solution, but haven't had a lot of luck just yet. Are there any good open source / free bluray burning applications that these kids could use to burn their movie with? Open source isn't a requirement, but they are strapped college kids now and don't want to spend money on software if they don't have to!

Thanks in advance!

Dunno about favourite, but Toast 18 Pro should work I think.

I've been using CDBurnerXP for probably 15 years (more download options -> without installcore). It will burn Blu-ray, but unfortunately I don't think it will burn blu-ray video (as in, formatted to play in a consumer standalone player).

Regarding the above, I stopped trying to make discs for video playback years ago. Standalone players are just too flaky and scattershot on disc support. Especially if it's something the kids are planning to semi mass-produce and sell for actual money, they're bound to have headaches and unhappy customers. It might be both cheaper and easier to pursue some sort of streaming service for distribution.

Sometimes that's plain impossible, though. Kids' stuff often need to be on a disc for pre-review by teachers/clubs, and for grandparents with no computers and weak internet and phone plans, the sheer bandwidth of a disc in the post wins every time.

I actually use Premiere Elements 15 for this, but I didn't recommend it as the next version afterwards (2018) and the one after that (2019) have removed the functionality to make the damn discs. (You can still edit your video in PE 2019, and export a file in the right format, you just need something else to import the exported video into so you can do the disc menus &c. which would be a total PITA :x .)

I get that, but note that in this case they're selling for profit. It's different if you're making something one-off for grandma or a kindergarten class. In that instance, it's no big deal if you need to troubleshoot and try a different brand of disc. Selling for profit it had better work.

Interesting about Premiere Elements 15 though... I think that's the version I have.

Thanks for all the advice. I actually have a friend who has one version of Premier Elements, I'll connect with him to see if that may work.

In my searching since I found that post, I investigated using TsMuxer to try to turn my mp4 into a ts stream and then use ImgBurn to burn that to a BluRay. Still something not working though, since the TS stream won't play correctly just yet.... Might end up paying for something after all it seems...

Should do, so long as the version is between 4 and 15.
