AMD Support Request

Hello folks...

Looking to connect with the AMD liaison here on Techreport.

For the past couple months, since purchasing an AMD graphics card on a Windows 7 64 bit computer, I've never been able to install drivers using the catalyst package. I've alwalys had to do manually. The install manager would launch, ask if I want to Install/Uninstall, but after clicking Install, the Manager would disappear and nothing would happen. I tried all manner of things from UAC to driver signing, but to no avail.

I just recently stumbled upon the solution, and am offering this to AMD to help people solve what is a common problem, from what I see on search results.

The problem PC must have this hotfix installed: http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/KB961 ... aseId=2067

After installing the VB Hotfix, the catalyst installation finally works.

Catalyst Install Manager also has dependencies for .NET, so you should probably try to keep your Windows installation up to date.

by just brew it!
Yeah, I've seen random Catalyst install failures due to outdated .NET components. Really wish they'd add some sort of pre-check to their installer that tells you what component(s) need upgrading, instead of just bombing out with cryptic error messages (or even no error messages).

I don't even bother installing the cat control centre anymore.

Only been installing the driver now since the 3850 days and not 1 problem.

Way off topic, but...

I didn't realize tires were sentient, let alone capable of using computers to browse the interwebs! :o

[EDIT]Let's see if anyone will catch the reference! :)[/EDIT]
