Dell Ulrasharp dead pixel recommendation

Fri Mar 08, 2013 11:36 pm

I just returned a 2.5 yr old 3007WFP-HC on warranty. The replacement was a refurbed 3011WFP. Because I'm a masochist I immediately checked for dead/stuck pixels. I found a single stuck or bright pixel (only visual against a dark/black background). I tried to message it out, but to no avail. It really isn't noticeable most of the time, but is towards the center of the screen.

So. Dell apparently has a perfect pixel guarantee for their Ultrasharps. Would you try and get a second replacement in my position for only 1 stuck pixel? Secondly, is it even Dell's policy to allow me to demand one 2.5 years into the warranty? Or is the perfect pixel thing on the Ultrasharps only something that applies when you first take delivery?

Call them up and find out. The worst they can do is say no.

You are lucky that yours is a bright pixel. I have a dark pixel on my 2412 and I was out of the 30-day satisfaction guarantee window (too lazy to open in time, and did not check the fine print on the Premium Panel Guarantee).
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

I also have a stuck pixel on my u3011, it shows as blue against a black background, most other colors works fine. I never bothered with it. If it bothers you, check with em if you can get it replaced. If not, be happy, it's a nice screen.

I agree with Fox here...if you think it's worth getting another one try to. If you don't notice the pixel that much -- though guessing you know where it is, you see it all the time, just go with the flow. Besides attempting to massage it out and blast it with "static" there's not a whole lot to "fix" it i fit hasn't been fixed by such methods.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm just going to keep it. After using for a day, I just about never notice it, even though i know where it is. And yes, it's a u3011 (revision A08), not 3011wfp. Colors out of the box are much better vs the 3007wfp-hc it's replacing and the backlighting seems to be a bit more uniform.

BTW, I noticed that the anti-glare (AG) coating was a bit less noticeable on the new u3011 than on the 3007wfp, which I really like. This surprised me as I've read that the U3011 uses a very heavy AG coating. But then today I found a forum post claiming that the AG on the u3011 was reduced on the newer A08 revision... Anyway, I find the AG to be pretty much just right (if still a tad much). All in all, I can't really complain about getting a few month-old replacement for a 3-year old monitor with less features, worse color calibration and slightly heavier AG coating, stuck pixel or no.

BTW, for Canadians, the u3011 is $980 today..
