I finally sorted out why my machine wouldn't over clock worth beans after my PS failed about a year a go.
At the same time it failed and i put in a new powersupply I also updated the bios on my Gigabyte z68 mainboard.
The new firmware looks nice but it also hid the LLC option.
Out of sight and out of mind I totally forgot that I had to turn it on.
Instead I'm using the dvid option at +0.095 giving a max voltage of around 1.35.
HW monitor reports it closer to 1.41
Temps are around 50c to 70C depending on load and it is dead stable at 4.2ghz all core.
Dual core clocks to 4.5ghz just fine as well.
I have it set to conservative overclock and power saving features still turned on so speed ramps from 1600 to 4500 and drops back to 4.2 under full load.
I previously had it up to 4.8ghz with llc at level 5 but i don't have a lot of time to mess with it.
Memory is running at 1600 on xmp profile rather the previous 1333 default.
The overclock is a nice boost in performance while playing games compared to the standard clocks it had been running at all year.
If I get time I'll see if I can get my all core overclock back.
I might try 48, 46, 45, 45 turbo boost multipliers tonight to see if it works out.
I was also experiencing a weird slow down and lagging after about 10-15 minutes of game play in skyrim, fallout 4, and far cry 5. Turns out it was fraps. I shut it down and the problem went away. I was only using it for framecounting so I'm using the built in counter in steam overlay instead. All this time I thought it was caused by a bad driver and I'd have to reinstall windows.
