Seeking some handholding - fan setup, temp understanding

Thu Aug 19, 2021 5:37 pm

Hiya,

To be transparent - I struggle with change, and going from my old PC where I'd get low, low temps (under 40 when gaming, rendering, etc) with my AIO cooler and didn't worry about fan setup, to now... It is challenging for me.

I've a 5900x with a h115i AIO, inside a Corsair iCue 5000 case. 10 fans in total:

Temps don't go below 40, hit and sit between 58 and 64 when playing a game like Dead by Daylight, but spike up to over 70 when doing basic tasks such as opening steam or loading in to a game.

The system was built by a website for me, well known one in the UK.

I am not super confident that the airflow is setup correctly.
Not do I know much about fan curves etc to set those up so my pc is getting the right support.

Long and short... I'm looking for someone to talk me through all this, either identify there are issues or that everything is fine and it's for me to accept and work through.

Mucho gracias

Those temps are perfectly fine (better than normal, actually). My 5900X on a full custom loop still runs into the 70s under load. It's literally nothing to worry about.
Victory requires no explanation. Defeat allows none.

You are perfectly fine. My 9700K paired with a Noctuna NH-U9S easily hits 90C when fully taxed while falling back to ~60-70C under lighter loads. It only throttles when it reaches 100C. It has endured this for almost three years now.

I concur with Waco and Krogoth - those temps are fine. (I'd love to have temps that good on my 8700k....)

You don't have to worry about anything from a hardware safety and longevity perspective unless you're consistently getting into the high 90s or above. 60s and 70s on a 12 core chip are pretty darn good.
