Cooler Master Hyper TX3

Does anyone have an opinion on the Cooler Master Hyper TX3? It seems the CPU HSF (stock) on my old machine (E8400) is slowly dying, so the temperatures are climbing higher and higher. The system itself is fine for the purpose it serves, which is to provide for a computer to play games on for visitors/gf. I'd prefer not to have to tear the whole thing apart as it is carefully built inside a Sonata Arctica III. This, to me, rules out the cooler I'm using in my main system, a Hyper 212 Evo. I went looking around for coolers that support LGA775 that use the four-pin system and there don't seem to be too many that aren't just a slightly modified stock cooler.

Has anyone used this cooler, or know of a different one that would perform well?

You probably won't get something else that is this cheap ($20 @newegg). I looked at the Arctic 7 Rev 2 and newegg charges $30 for it.

The TX3 should be a decent cooler. I think JBI keeps mentioning it with his builds.

I have one on my 3770k, very quiet, temps never go above 63C with a tiny overclock to 4ghz, at 100% running Prime64 for hours on end. I even added a second fan just in case and because I found it on sale, not really needed. The stock cooler would reach 90C in seconds, it was garbage.

Yup, I love the TX3. Cheap, and beats the snot out of stock coolers in both performance and noise level. The fact that it is compatible with both Intel's and AMD's stock HSF mounting hardware is the icing on the cake, and makes it ideal for upgrading the HSF on existing builds (no need to remove the motherboard).

I typically don't even bother with the retail HSFs any more. I just chuck the retail cooler straight into in my spares drawer and slap a TX3 on.

I should add... I can say from personal experience that it is capable of cooling an FX-8150 (probably the most power-hungry desktop CPU in recent memory) even at 100% load. So it really ought to be able to handle an E8400 with the fan dialed back to 1000 RPM (or even less), which should make it virtually silent. I assume the motherboard has some sort of fan speed controls (or at least only ramps the fan up when the CPU gets hot)?

Well, I stopped by a CVS on my way home from work today and picked up a new thing of isopropyl alcohol as I ran out a while back. I got it installed a few minutes ago and am running Prime95 torture test on it right now. 56C max so far, but I'll let it run for a bit yet to see what happens.
