To answer the questions:
The pagefile is on the ssd. However, if the drive is disappearing until I power it off, Windows can't stay up for long. Probably doesn't matter if I move this to the hard drive.
Second, this is my machine. I do, fortunately, have some hard drives lying around, like the stock 250GB 3.5" from the machine, and the 2.5" 320GB from the laptop. Any ideas for simple cloning that won't screw up the alignment when I go back to an SSD? I have a few days left to return the ssd (almost at 30 days, to give you an idea of how occasional this is and how long it took me to figure it out).
As for the 4 questions:
1. Yes, fresh install to the drive a month ago.
2. This machine only supports AHCI and RAID, and I'm definitely not in RAID mode. I don't think it even supports IDE emulation.
3. No, I'm using the Intel ones. Could try that, though I hate relying on things like this to keep the system stable. Strange though that the MX200 in the laptop, likely with Intel SATA drivers and more power saving support, seems to be doing fine.
4. Not on basic SATA drivers at the moment.
If I do return this, any ideas on what to change to? Samsung crossed themselves off my list with the 840/evo issue. MX200's don't seem to have this issue, but who knows. Intel 730 maybe? (They suck at power consumption in laptops, but are basically enterprise DC drives.) Sandisk Extreme 240GB? Same price as the 730, though the 10 year warranty kinda says something about their faith in the product. Note: I'm not concerned about maxing out my SATA 6gb/s write speeds, but I will pay extra for reliability if need be.
Unfortunately this all comes at a bad time, since I'm leaving my dorm and heading back to California (from Oregon) on the 12th, plus time to return the mx100 is running out. And I'd like to buy the new drive before I leave, since there's no sales tax in Oregon. Though having amazon prime overnight stuff usually doesn't cost much for things like this, assuming they actually put the item in the mail promptly.
