Installed New Hard Drive = 'No Signal' on monitor

Fri Nov 18, 2016 1:53 pm

II installed a new hard drive, I replaced the old one because of an error I got, 'a required drive partition is missing'. After installing my new hard drive, I turn my pc on and all I get is a 'no signal' screen, then my monitor goes to sleep. I also tried to enter the bios setup but it doesn't work. When turning on my pc the only screen I get is the monitor manufacturer (asus) logo, then goes straight to 'no signal'.

Details:
Cables on the monitor to the pc are in correctly.
I have no other hard drives.
I replaced my os drive with a new empty hard drive thinking I could just pop my windows 8 DVD in and start the setup.
My fan LEDs are on and the fans are spinning so the pc is on.
All cables I disconnected to replace the hard drive are connected to the new one correctly.

If anyone knows a way I can enter the bios setup (I've already tried del, all the f numbers, and ctrl alt del)
Or a way I can get anything on my screen please reply :)
Thanks in advance.

I once got an unexplained "No signal" when I accidentally switched my monitor's input from DVI to HDMI.

Sounds like something else got knocked loose (e.g. motherboard power cable), or damaged.

Is this integrated graphics or a discrete video card?

Try temporarily disconnecting the new drive and see if you can get a POST screen or get into the BIOS.

That doesn't explain why he can't even get into the BIOS. He should still get a POST screen and have the ability to access the BIOS even if the boot order is hosed. (Also... how is he supposed to fix the boot order if he can't even access the BIOS?)

Did you have Fast Boot/Ultra Fast Boot enabled on your old drive? (I think it's supposed to fail more gracefully but there are a whole lot of implementations out there so who knows)

Doing a CMOS reset couldn't hurt.

Sometimes you have to use Escape. Apparently, Ctrl+Alt+S or Backspace sometimes work, although I've never seen that.
