External drive stopped being recognized

Wed Feb 28, 2018 12:11 pm

I plug in a USB drive(SSD) but Windows Explorer fails to detect it. Audio sound is generated when it is plugged in and icon for "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" shows up on the task bar. If I click on the icon, name of the external drive is shown.
How can I fix this problem? Any suggestion is appreciated.

Edit: It is not a SSD, and is a spinning 2.5" disk drive.

Check Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) to see if it is there but just with no assigned drive letter?

It was not shown on the Disk Management.
I opened up the enclosre and used SATA interface to connect it to the PC, but no avail. So the problem must be the SATA drive itself.
Any idea to recover the data?
