ZFSin - Stable(!?) ZFS Windows kernel mode driver

Wow. This should be fun to try, especially to create volumes across multiple cheap USB drives.

That sounds like a recipe for massive pain. When the release from just 1 month ago has the line item "stability fixes, fewer BSODs!" in its release notes, this does not inspire a great deal of confidence.

Edit: Oh, and the latest release (from just 5 days ago) says "random IO errors fix". This does not sound like it is anywhere near close to stable. I suppose if you like being a guinea pig, have at it. Someone's gotta do it.

With the death of WinFS, it would actually be nice of ZFS became an officially supported FS for Windows.

I doubt it will ever be officially supported, and the project linked by the OP looks like it has a long way to go before it is production quality.

Yea, ummm, yea..... I'll let someone else test this. I like my stability.

 I love ZFS but given the growing pains on Linux I give any well-funded Windows port at least 5 years until it's remotely stable/reliable/performant.

What this guy went through to run ZFS on Clear Linux is just :o

You can do anything on Linux, as long as you are a kernel developer or something...

The fragmented nature of the various distributions is just insane. Thank God we have ONE Windows. Imagine the horror if it were opensource...

Well...

1. It's a file system. File systems need to interact with the kernel, so kernel dependencies are to be expected.

2. It's ZFS, which has historically been a second-class citizen on Linux due to licensing issues. Last I checked, Ubuntu was the only major distro that has embraced it; expecting Clear to have it in their official repository is unreasonable.

Deciding to install it on a niche distro which doesn't officially support it was the software equivalent of "Hold my beer..."

Eh, honestly that's pretty lightweight troubleshooting. Linux people are spoiled these days.

Heh. I can relate. I've gone to far greater lengths just to get a newer upstream version of the Audacious music player (to replace the buggy one in the Ubuntu repo)!
