Seagate had some bad models in recent years, what are the exact model numbers?
What does SMART say?

A possible theory: The Hitachi failed "normally", the other two are of the bad Seagate models.

by just brew it!
Yes, it could be a problem with the controller. But I would suspect a dodgy SATA cable or flaky power first.

Have you tried replacing the SATA cable? Are there any incidents reported in the system event log? Have you gone into your BIOS (or used a system monitoring tool) to check whether your PSU voltages are in spec?

Flaky RAM can also cause drive corruption. Have you run a RAM diagnostic?
