Compatibility switch in laptop CD bay to 2.5" adapters?

Fri Oct 16, 2020 8:45 am

Some CD bay to 2.5" adapters come with a 3-mode switch to help with "compatibility".
In some cases the 3 positions are labeled with specific manufacturer names, like HP, IBM, Dell...

Any idea what's up with that? I thought SATA is SATA.
