Muhahahaha!

This is replacing my 1st gen Raptor in my home machine. Anyone want some benchmarking before I switch 'em out?

I'm thinking of grabbing my spare 36gb Raptor at the shop and RAIDing the old one. Have this new one as my main OS drive, use the stripe of the other two as a nice speedy scratch disk.

Any suggestions?

I seen a link on DSL reports one time called Performance Test Unfortunatly, I reformatted my Hard Drive and forgot what the website was to download it. It tested your whole computer, just not like hardcore 3D graphics (need full version) and a few other things but it did test reading and writing of Drives.

Hmm. I'd like to compare the two drives, then bench the striped 36 giggers. Like a 3-way, with hard drives.

I have a bad 30gb Seagate you could use though ;)

This page led me to some tests. So I'll use Winbench99, IOmeter and Sandra 2004 and report back this weekend.

I still can not afford the 36 gig one :( Well, at least I can still enjoy your benches to see how bad my hard drive sucks compared to yours.

I can say with all seriousness that this new Raptor is noticably faster than the 1st gen 36gb one. I have never installed XP so fast (maybe 15 minutes), and right now I'm reinstalling all my software, many programs which I install on clients PCs on a daily basis, and I notice the speed. I am very pleased.

That's incredible. Can't wait until the prices on the 10k SATA drives start to come down a little bit. :)
