DVD RW recommendation

Thu Mar 30, 2006 5:30 pm

Any suggestions? I've been a little out of it for a while, is there anything in particular I need to keep in mind? They haven't switched to SATA or anything have they? And are they all dual layer?

Looks like you didn't miss much. Mainly yes on both counts.

There is only 1 SATA writer from Plextor. And most of them are dual layer now, some even offer DVD-RAM capability.

The BenQ, LG-4167 and Pioneer 111D are popular choices. NEC's 3550 has been mentioned too, but a few TR people run into problems and I haven't found any good reviews on it yet, not to mention NEC has a 4550 out, so that may be another one to look at.

I've just gotten a Plextor PX-716AL all because it looks cool. Will need to find a nice black case for it.
