Another reason to keep backups. Get infected, don't pay ransom, just wipe your systems and restore.

That isn't WannaCry, it clearly says so in the article.

Keep in mind this is probably just the start of a continued string of hacks we will be seeing for some time. The leaked NSA toolkit from a few months ago had all all sorts of unpublished vulnerabilities and tools, and Eternal Blue (the attack vector for Win 7 systems that WannaCry exploited) is just one of many that were probably in that kit. For those that don't know, Eternal Blue exploited a vulnerability in Win 7 that the NSA discovered but never notified Microsoft about. It allowed remote attacks on Win 7 installs without the need for user interaction in any fashion.

I was going by early reports.
