CPU usage different in different Task Manager tabs

Wed Jul 19, 2017 2:18 pm

For a specific process, I'm seeing different CPU usage numbers in Task Manager tabs "Processes" and "Details".
Processes shows a higher figure. In Details quite a lot is taken by "System Idle Process".

Process Explorer and Resource Monitor agree more with the Details tab.

Any idea what's exactly reported by each tab?

Dunno, my Task Manager isn't even remotely close to accurate. Trust whatever info Process Explorer gives you to be the real number... something's really half-baked with how WIn 10 monitors hardware resources.

For fun, I had made these a couple weeks ago:

Is this a quirk of Hyper-Threading? It would make sense to me that System Idle Process would be used to "idle" unused logical cores. I haven't experienced this, but I don't have HT either

Yes, AFAIK idle virtual (HT) cores count towards the idle percentage.

Also, if you have a lot of processes rapidly spawning and terminating, this may throw things off (I know it does in Linux, not sure how well Windows tracks things in this situation).
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Just a single-process video encoder in my usage, where I wonder if it maxes the CPU or not.
