Windows Vista File Association Question

Wed Jan 17, 2018 10:09 pm

How can I set a program with command line options to be the default program that opens a media file type in Windows Vista? I have spent hours researching this but nothing actually worked. I can't seem to uninstall Windows Media Player, and when I "Choose default program," it doesn't seem to stick.

Specifically, I want VirtualDub to open .avi files by default, with a command line option that opens VirtualDub in a certain state.

I have tried searching the registry for an entry to edit. I tried putting VD in a folder called VD123 to find the file association but regedit fails to find that folder.

(Please don't ask why I am still using Vista...)
