I've got three computers i'm working with right now. One is in Liberia and two are in Guinea-Conackry. I mention this in case there is some strange regional block on windows updates. All the computers are running Windows 10

None of them can connect to windows update. Although you can brows to the internet just fine. I also can't run installers that download the rest of their files from the internet after you start to run them (Logmein and Tunnel Bear are what i've been trying to do) I can download Chrome, Firefox, PDF reader just fine. I was trying to download Tunnel bear to VPN to the USA to see if it was a regional lock out, but that woudn't install!

In another strange twist, I can't download a pdf from a company website, not sure if it is related or not. It just says network error.

I've run the various Windows troubleshooters, but because the computers are connected to the internet there is never an issue. I ran through a log list of Logmein tips and tricks, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I used to use Hotspotshield to get around website geoblocking, but that was a few years ago.

So you think they really block updates by region? That really sucks!

I don't know why I can't install Logmein or Tunnel Bear though.

I got tunnel bear to install and Windows update to run when connected to the US. (This is at my apartment) There must be some other routing going on at the lab that allows updates to run from there.

Maybe fishy ISPs? Liberia had some sort of sanctions, but I think they were lifted two years ago.

Yeah one of the two major telecoms is owned by the guy who basically still is holding all of Charles Taylor's assets for him. So it was sanctioned for a long time and we were not allowed to do business with them. (USG project)

I try not to do anything without a VPN here too...

Yeah, given the notoriety of Liberia I wouldn't do anything without a VPN there too. Hell, I don't even trust my country enough so I use NordVPN for myself. Maybe OP needs something like that too.

What installers do those two programs use? If they are using MSI, my guess is something is wrong with the Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
