VMware...Ethernet="other devices" -"No known drivers"

Wed Jul 04, 2018 2:05 pm

Hope this is the right place.

Two days now and finally got one working again.
Hope this may save others some time...

W10-1803 would boot to a black screen with the old VMTools.
(W10-1709 and W8.1 are fine)
The Host is W7x64.

So I updated to the latest VMPlayer 14 and got rid of the black screen problem.
BUT no Ethernet (USB Ethernet is seen).
All the VM Ethernet controllers show up under "other devices"
with no known drivers. I uninstalled all VM programs and reinstalled, No good.

I don't know what was broken. I thought uninstalling everything would fix it but no.

What finally got the Ethernet controllers to show up as the proper "Intel" ones and work
was running the old VM through the VM Converter!

My old W7 VM and a new W10 install VM have working Ethernet.
But none of my old VMs with W8.1 or W10 had working Ethernet.

Just glad I've got one working again!
It is on the old tools so can not open W10-1803

But I'll update to VMPlayer14 again some other day when I
feel like dealing with it if it mess things up again.
