If the information from this link is true, you're out of luck. Win95 is not eligible for upgrade to Win XP. What happened to your edition of Win98?

U know, u could borrow the 98 CD from a friend. The XP installation just needs you th insert the CD to verify that you have it, thats the only difference between that and the full version.

fc34 - You do realize that your method is just as illegal as simply burning a copy of the VLK non-activation version?

Forge, given the fact that he has a valid copy(i hope) of 98 and has just misplaced it, I dont see how this is illegal. Plus the fact that the install requires nothing from the disk, just only to see that you have it.

Although if I were you, hefley, why didnt u make a backup copy of the orginal 98 CD.

Having done multiple xp home installs (mostly upgrades) I found that even though you cannot upgrade a win95 install, you can just boot off the disk with an unpartitioned hdd and it will ask for a cd that has a previous version of windows. (95, 98, 2k, 3.51!!) If you have a copy of win98 installed on your machine (and you OWN the license) just borrow a win98 disc from a friend and bare install it. It is much better that way anyway so none of the problem associated with doing an upgrade from 9x to nt based os occur. (They are fairly rare anymore, but they do happen)

See, the only disks that came with my pc are the application recovery and system recovery disks. Is there a way that i could burn 98 off my system that i upgraded?

The best and easiest way to do this is just buy a legal copy of Xp and run it on your new system. I dont like it any more then the next guy I have 5 XP disks that I have purchased for new systems and upgrades, it sucks but hey they are legal.

I haven't really looked but if you use Kazaa you might be able to download it and use YOUR serial number. But I don't know if windows 98 is up there. That's still legal right?
