Autocomplete on Google search - solved

Thu Jun 16, 2011 1:31 pm

I fixed this before but I can't remember the dance. Windows did an update last night now I'm cursed with this again.

In say, Google search - as soon as you type a character it auto-completes a dropdown list based on prior search histories, etc.

I hate this, hate this, hate this for a number of reasons. This is an IE issue, not Google.

Using the "Internet Options - Content - Autocomplete" and "Delete History on exit" options does not resolve this.

I even disabled "Windows Search" Service in Services.MSC but this also has no effect.

Ideas?

Thanks

Tools -> Manage addons -> Search Provider -> select the provider -> "Disable suggestions"

internet options > content > autocomplete > settings > uncheck all the boxes and delete auto complete history

Thanks guys, I've done both those things...

"Search Suggestions" are disabled for all add-on search providers.

and

All boxes are unchecked in autocomplete in IE Options.

Thanks for the ideas.

But the problem is still not solved.

Any other ideas?

Sorry - easy fix in Google.. missed this, sorry guys.

It has nothing to do with Search suggestions for search add-ons in IE9 - which would seem to make perfect sense.

In Google it is managed by the "do not provide search predictions" box - I was positive I tried that before but I must have missed it.

Thanks for the help.

So it's not an IE issue then.

No, it's a Google thing. I've changed the title to properly label the thread.
