Ok I know linux will suport dual procs. out of the box but what about 4 or more?

I believe I remember reading in the kernel docs that it will support up to 32 procs. But it's been a while since I read that.
Nope, just checked SMP.txt in the 2.2.16 kernel docs and it says it supports up to 16. I don't have a 2.4 kernel handy to see what it says.

Quad and higher is supported excellently. Far better than WinNT, IMHO, since Linux does not radically increase in price for quad CPU support. :smile:

Alright yeah I knew they could what I meant though is do they support it without any extra configuration on your part? IE would quad support be setup after going through a standard RedHat install?

Absolutely. All you ahve to do is make sure SMP support is compiled into the kernel. Every distro I know of comes with an SMP kernel, it may be autoselected at install or you may get a choice.

If you install and then go SMP, a kernel recompile is not brain surgery.
