run on my dreamcast.

I think I may finally have it.

Man, I had no idea what ip.bin was supposed to do, or how to create one. Finally found a page that has info on them, and a sample for the distro I'm using.

Hopefully it works.... now if I can just find a lan adapter for it i'll be happy.

It worked.

For some reason the keyboard isn't working, but I was able to get up to a tty shell... Now all I gotta do is figure out why the keyboard isn't working ( don't ask why I have a keyboard, well, I'll tell you anyway. Last summer my roommate and I where messing around, found the modem cable for the DC and then proceeded to get on the internet and look at porn. We figured it was the right thing to do. After that we got on irc and started harassing people, but typing using the menu sucked. My roommate decided he needed to buy a keyboard to harass people better. )

Anyway, now that it works, what do I do with it now?

I had actually thought of picking up a dreamcast for 50 bucks and getting linux running on it, but then I thought what would I put on it to make it worthwhile? And with only the space available on a CD all I could come up with was a little webserver or just a web appliance type deal for reading mail, browsing, etc. Now if you could hack a HD into a dreamcast it might make it a little bit more worthwhile. Either that or wait for the US version of PS2 linux to come out.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that in booting linux it somehow fubared my DC. It still works fine, but no longer recognizes any input from the controllers. I've got the battery pulled, hoping it's a software issue... but it doesn't look good.

I doubt I can blame linux on it, but it is oddly coincedental.

Really? I've seen linux on a DC before and the controllers work fine!

Anyone else get a nintendo emulator cd's for your Dreamcast? That is fun fun fun fun! I play Contra on my DC more than I play any other game now.

I got it fixed, what had happened is somehow the 5 ohm resistor on the input controller went haywire, replaced it, and all is well.

Coincidence is all.

What I think is funny is my bro got it working on his DC, but he doesn't have a keyboard, so if you hit the a button on the controller, it types an 'a' at the prompt. very funny, all he can type is a, b, x, and y...
