I've got an installation of Debian etch on a very old PC (circa 1996). I had a power outage recently, and now I'm having problems with the hard drive. It tries to run **** when it boots, but it encounters some errors and then kicks me into "maintenance mode", where the filesystem is mounted read-only, and my network is not loaded. There is one small file that I would like to recover -- I can cat the file succesfully, so I know that particular portion of the disk is ok. I would like to try to get the file off the machine somehow. It has no USB port, but it does have a working floppy drive. However, when I try to mount the floppy, I get some weird errors (mount: /media/floppy is not a block device, and stat fails?).
Any ideas how I can get this file off the drive? It's only 25KB.
